We partied in Ibiza for 17 hours straight, listened to Horse Meat Disco to avoid paying for a hotel – here’s how it went

A middle-aged couple flew to Ibiza for 17 hours – and partied the night away to avoid booking a hotel.

Paul Coulson, 45, and his wife Suzanne, 42, love dance music and knew they wanted to go to the closing party of Horse Meat Disco in Ibiza.

The pair decided to plan their trip around the event and flew out of Newcastle at 7.35am on October 26 – arriving in Ibiza at 11.40am local time.

The couple spent the day exploring the old town and grabbing tapas and drinks before heading to a hilltop bar for sunset.

They went to Pikes Ibiza for dinner before heading next door for the event – staying up all night partying.

An exhausted Paul and Suzanne returned to the airport for 5am after the night ended to catch their 8.50am flight – flying via Amsterdam to get cheaper tickets.

The pair arrived back in Newcastle at 5pm on October 27 and said they had the best time.

Paul, who works for a defense company, from Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, said: “We covered it all.

“We love Ibiza. We love the Pikes and they were having a closing party.

“It was a no-brainer.”

Paul and Suzanne, the curriculum leader, had been talking about doing a day trip for the past two years.

They decided to do so when they saw their favorite DJs perform in Ibiza on October 26, 2024.

Paul has already been to Ibiza twice this year – once with Suzanne – and the couple love the venue Pikes Ibiza.

They booked their travel around the event – spending £140 ($180.16) on return flights in total.

The pair caught an early flight and were in Ibiza Old Town by 12pm.

Paul said: “We went up the hill to find some bars and tapas places.

“We left it and enjoyed the view.

“It was relaxing at that point.”

The couple then headed out for dinner at 7pm before heading to the club side of the venue to DJ.

They partied until 4am before catching a taxi to the airport at 5am.

Paul said, “We didn’t stop at the expense.

“Horse meat disco are the DJs we love and we love the vibe of what Pikes has to offer.”

Paul and Suzanne chilled at the airport and brushed their teeth.

He said: “By 6am we had hit a wall of fatigue and were ready for bed.”

The couple slept on their first flight, had lunch at Amsterdam airport before catching a second 15-minute flight to Newcastle – arriving at 5pm.

The sharp pair had an early night and are now out for half term.

They estimate they spent about £350 ($450.39) on food, drink and taxis, but they have no regrets.

The cost of a hotel in Ibiza for one night is around £300 (386.09) – so the pair were able to save by going without accommodation.

Paul said, “That’s why we work so hard.

“I thoroughly recommend people to take a day trip.”
